Georgia Green Party Fundraising Events

We intend  to place our candidates on the Georgia ballot in 2000.  Getting just the Presidential slate there is an $80 - 100,000.00 project.  If you are going to go out and dance, you might as well give the cover charge to the Party's efforts.  If we want to buy any radio time for our candidates next year, we'll need to raise even more.  If you would like to help organize a fundraiser in your community or help with one we've already got going, please write our Development Director.  If you want to support the work we're doing, please buy tickets to, attend and/ or  otherwise support the following events:

Dreaming of a Green Christmas -- Featuring Greg Barrett, Kerrie and Asha and the ex-PAND band!  On Friday, December 10th, 1999 in downtown Atlanta's Somber Reptile Lounge, at the corner of Marietta and Northside Drive.  Cover charge is $4.00.  Come dance with us and learn how you can help us pass HB-672 and put the Green Party on the ballot.

Archived Materials from old Fundraisers. We've been blessed with some great music and the support of locally owned businesses.  We urge you to support the musicians and the businesses who support our work.

Presidential Nominating Convention

The next one will be June 23-25th, 2000 in Denver Colorado.  Between the Official Convention Web Page and the links in this paragraph, you can learn about the early registration program and the platform (platform (.pdf)) to be considered there, about our state's Policy on the Presidential Nominating Convention, the ASGP's Convention Proceedings, credentialling rules,  proposed agenda, speakers, the state and national platform revision process and more.  Here is a Report of the ASGP Platform Committee to the Convention, which makes its recommendations on the Proposed Platform Revisions and Amendments.  We hope to provide a running delegate count, and links to media coverage as well.

National Meetings

We are affiliated with the Association of States Green Parties whose Coordinating Council is scheduled to meet next at the time of and on the site of the 2000 Presidential Nominating Convention. The Coordinating Committee of the ASGP meets ongoingly by email.  To reach the Georgia ASGP Delegates, write to this link.  Members are welcome to read their reports.

We are also affiliated with the Greens/ Green Party (usa) who hold an annual gathering and congress.  The dates and location for the 2000 event has not yet been announced. The group's Green Council met most recently in Seattle when the WTO was in town.  Presumably, another GC meeting will be held in the Spring time.

Annual Nominating Convention

We just held one March 18th, 2000 at Koininia Farms in Sumter County, South of Americus on Ga. Hwy 49.  At this event we nominated candidates, amended our Platform and by-laws and elected internal leadership including our state Council and our delegates to the Presidential Nominating Convention.  While we had copies of the draft national platform (or platform (.pdf)), we focused on our own state platform and used it to instruct our Convention Delegates on our position on the amendment and adoption of the national document.  We also cast a secret ballot to determine our preference among the Presidential candidates.  Here are our Convention Rules and our Convention Process

We anticipate the possibility of holding another state convention on June 3rd, 2000, for the purpose of nominating additional local candidates and electing Greens to fill vacancies still left on our delegation to the Denver Convention.

Coordinating Council

Last year our Coordinating Council tried to meet Quarterly face-to-face. and monthly by phone conference, plus special called phone conferences, as needed. The 2000 Convention just returned the same Council to office.  This Council will likely meet on a similar schedule.  To learn about the next meeting, write our clerk.

Local Affiliates

Our locals hold annual meetings to elect their leadership and other meetings as demanded by local issues and conditions.

The Sumter County Green Party is the first local to officially affiliate with the state party.  It's application was approved by the 2000 Americus Convention.  They are already operating a listserve.

The Athens/ Clarke County Green Party will held its first Annual Meeting on January 14th, 1999 at the Athens Regional Library, but failed to name local officers and so has not yet affiliated.  Recently, three applicants petitioned to serve as local convenors.  They are now planning a Annual Meeting to organize the local.  The dates are unknown.  They operate a listserve if you would like to get involved.  To learn more about this local, please contact them through the local's website.

There has been recent interest in organizing a local in Grady, Habersham, Union.  Let us know if you need help getting a local started where you live.
