Sunday, November 5, 2000, 8:00 p.m.Host Don Fitz interviews candidates for Missouri Governor Zaki Baruti (Green Party) and Rev. Larry Rice (Independent). The candidates compare Ralph Nader's exclusion from the October 17 Presidential debate in St. Louis to their exclusion from several Missouri debates for Governor.
Zaki Baruti notes that Greens are the only Missouri party running African Americans for Governor and US Senator and the only party with women candidates for half of state-wide offices. He discusses the need to protect Missouri's environment by stopping medical waste incineration and lead mining. Known for his opposition to the death penalty, Larry Rice emphasizes the need for state government to protect low income citizens. He discusses the threat to Missouri's family farmers posed by animal confinement factories and financial powers such as Monsanto.
The candidates disagree on abortion, with Baruti supporting women's right to chose and Rice endorsing life from conception through old age. Baruti is Co-Chair of the Coalition Against Police Crimes and Repression, which works for community control of the police. Rice is founder of the New Life Evangelistic Center, which feeds homeless people.
Green Time is dedicated to an open forum which invites participation by the candidates of all parties which will appear on the ballot in Missouri.
