The forum on "Environmental Politics and People of Color" will start at 7 pm, Friday, March 10. It will begin with 13 year St. Louis Police Department veteran Dennis McLin describing his experience of being put on paid leave when he began speaking out against police violence. The forum will include Marc Loveless of the Chicago Greens and Tamara Trejo, Clearinghouse Coordinator for the G/GPUSA. This will be the best time and place for people coming into St. Louis to meet the person(s) with whom they are staying.
The "Ogoni Celebration of Life" will begin at 8 pm on Saturday, March 11. It will be in loving memory of Malachi Leage, an Ogoni political refugee from Nigeria who died in a car accident six months after arriving in St. Louis. Gateway Greens encourage generous cash donations which will go to Malachi's surviving wife and three children. Activities will include comments from Noble Obani-Nwibari, Vice President of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), the video "Delta Force" which exposes the role of Shell Oil in the pollution of Ogoniland, traditional Ogoni music, and contemporary American music.
