Plans Underway For Green Presidential Candidate
On Rhode Island Ballot
The Green Party of Rhode Island (GPRI) filed papers with the RI Secretary of State's office to begin the process of placing the Green Party Presidential nominee on the ballot.
The GPRI began collecting signatures on July 1st. Petitions must be turned in by early September and 1,000 valid signatures from registered Rhode Island voters are required to get Cynthia McKinney, the Green Party nominee for President of the United States on the Rhode Island ballot.
GPRI Co-Chair Eric Siegel pointed out that “three-fourths of the Greens in RI supported former U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney in her successful bid for the nomination”. He added, “The increasing hypocrisy of both major party candidates shows just how much we need a true alternative in this race. The party of the rich vs. the party of the rich isn't really much of a contest.”
