Population
The environmental impact of humans is a product of the
number of people multiplied by the per capita resource
consumption and pollution production. The world population
has doubled since 1950. Americans consume five times more
resources and create five times more pollution than the
world average. Because this human impact is now beyond a
sustainable level, we must take immediate action to reduce
population growth. Our goal is zero population growth in
our country as soon as possible. We also can help, through
non-coercive means, those countries attempting to limit
population.
We support:
- Policies that limit population by non-coercive means.
- Free and widespread access to family planning
information and services.
- Education and literacy programs for all people.
- Women's rights and equal opportunity.
- Adequate health care for all, including pre-natal and
child health care.
- Raised living standards for low-income and Third World
groups and countries.
- Full employment opportunities for all people.
