Candidates file for next year's elections

November 6, 2007

The weeklong filing period ended today for candidates planning to compete in next year's political contests.

Nearly all of DuPage County's top officials are running again, including Circuit Clerk Chris Kachiroubas, Coroner Pete Siekmann, Recorder Fred Bucholz and State's Attorney Joe Birkett. The only exception is retiring Auditor Jim Rasins, who will be replaced by Bob Grogan, vice chairman of the Downer's Grove Republican Party.

Twelve members of the 18-member DuPage County Board are up for re-election, and two are bowing out. Pam Rion of Bloomingdale and Bob Schroeder of Naperville plan to retire after serving for 14 and 20 years, respectively.

Joe Wozniak, a member of the College of DuPage Board of Trustees, and Gerry Cassioppi, a former District 203 school board member, will compete with incumbent Jim Healy for the two seats open in District 5 - an area that includes Naperville and Lisle.

Four of the six DuPage County Board districts will be contested in the Feb. 5 Republican primary. And in the November election, the Republican nominees for Districts 1, 3 and 4, and Forest Preserve District 3, each will face a Democratic contender.

Carl Schultz, Naperville's representative (District 5) on the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, has filed to run for another term.

This is the first election in which candidates could file to run under the banner of the Green Party. There are no Green Party candidates in Will County, and the only candidate to file in DuPage County was William Edgar, who is running in District 4 for the county board.
