Wheaton, Illinois - The DuPage County Green Party strongly opposes Dan Cronin's
amendment to Illinois House Bill 1752 which would triple the signature requirements for DuPage
county candidates. "This is an outrageous amendment that is very problematic,
unconstitutional, and certainly crushes equal protection for all voters and candidates in DuPage County",
said William A. Edgar III, Central Committee Chairman for the DuPage Green Party.
The original bill raises the pay for election judges, Cronin's amendment inserts a
small clause in the election code which names DuPage as the exclusive county in the state
where 1.5% of voter petition signatures are required for access to the ballot instead of
the 0.5% in the rest of Illinois.
"We have overcome very high hurdles to make it to the ballot and we shall continue
the stuggle no matter the cost, the voters of DuPage County deserve no less", added Edgar.
The Green Party is the first nationally organized third political party in Illinois
history to achieve established party status. The four pillars upon which the Green Party rests
are ecological wisdom, social and economic justice, nonviolence, and grassroots
democracy. The Green Party is also the only established Illinois political party that rejects all
donations from corporations, unions, and corporate political action committees.
