The Green Party nominates, not one, but two women for its presidential ticket, Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente.

Here are their acceptance speeches as recorded by C-Span with introductions by 2004 Green Party candidates.

National Women's Caucus member and former Spokesperson, Kat Swift, presidential candidate

Kat is from Texas, one of the states with truly oppressive ballot access laws. See her as Wonder Woman talking to people to gather signatures. On YouTube, you can also hear many amazing speeches including at the January 2008 Green PartyPresidential debates in San Francisco and on the eve of the convention in Chicago.

With apologies from a webmaster who is wearing too many hats, this page was not updated for a long time, but these are previous announcements:

January 10, 2007 - Richmond became the largest city in the nation with a member of the Green Party as its elected mayor Tuesday when Gayle McLaughlin was sworn in during an emotional inaugural ceremony at City Hall.

NWC announces election of new officers.

Green Women Elected in November

Greens were elected to office in November 2006. More Green successes are reflected by campaigns that though they did not get candidated elected, they did get ballot status for their states. Of the 66 Greens who were elected this year, 20 were women. Perhaps our biggest win in the November election was that of Gayle McLaughlin as mayor of Richmond, CA. According to a Green Party of CA press release, Richmond, a working class suburb of San Francisco with a population of about 104,000, becomes the biggest city in the U.S. where at Green is at the helm, and the first in California where a Green was directly elected as mayor.

National Women's Caucus Endorses Candidates

Katey Culver, running for US House Rep in Tennessee, and Rae Vogler, running for US Senate in Wisconsin, were formally endorsed by the National Women's Caucus. View the Press Releases for Rae and Katey's Endorsements.

Green Party National Meeting in Tucson

We had good local press coverage of the recent national meeting. One local TV story began with a quote from our own Katey Culver. Katey is running for congress from Tennessee. There were also several articles in the local press.

According to a GP press release, there were several press conferences scheduled during the meeting including one that the NWC sponsored for woman candidates with video of several of our woman candiates. Some of the interviews are available separately. Nan Garrett, one of the NWC officers, has thrown her hat into the ring to run for president, as has Kat Swift, who can be seen speaking and moderating, along with Nan, on the NWC press conference video. Kathleen Culver participated in another press conference for congressional candidates.

Also find links to movies and candidate websites on our web page listing women candidates for local and state offices.

Thanks so much to JT at Sound and Fury TV for providing videotaping of these press conferences.

NWC Bylaws

It was a very long process to get our by-laws amended. In our original by-laws, we required 2/3 of our members to vote to complete this process and voting needed to stay open until that number was met.

"Amendments required by the GPUS NC were adopted November 6, 2005. Full results will be posted soon. The amended bylaws will be posted as soon as the substantial amended content is integrated. Please be patient."

The National Women's Caucus knows it has lots of important work in front of it which we can soon begin to discuss since our by-law amendments are now approved. We will have a variety of projects addressing a variety of concerns.

....and we need to get on with our work on the issues of peace and the many others important to all of us as described in the portion of the Green Party platform plank relating to women's rights and to the GPUS 10 Key Values.

"Members of the National Women's Caucus and other Greens hoist the party banner at the March for Women's Lives held April 25, 2004 in Washington, D.C. NWC members are from left, Annie Goeke, Emily Citowski, 4th from left and Susan Dridi, sixth from left."
