Presidential Nominating Convention • Annual Convention The Function of a Campaign Committee I look forward to working with you in preparation for the 2000 Election, now less than one year away. Here is what I imagine a campaign committee can do for a candidate. ORGANIZE -- meet, set up decision-making process (keep them simple and flexible, I urge lots of latitude for people to do their jobs, including providing oversight of campaign resources -- but in a humane way), name officers, fill roles, set up account, letterhead, mailing address, research the law and file with FEC. CREATE VISIBILITY -- build a distributed fax / email / phone / word-of-mouth network to create visibility for your candidate. Send materials to supporters, potential supporters, and the media. build a website. include pdf files with campaign literature so people everywhere can download, print, duplicate and campaign. Hold events. Call reporters. Bring the Candidate to Georgia for a public appearance. create news coverage. PETITION FOR BALLOT ACCESS -- build a volunteer base of supporters who are working to put the Georgia Green Party on the ballot for the 2000 election. Help us collect the 39,094 signatures it will take to put our Presidential slate on the ballot. ATTEND THE CONVENTION -- March 18th, 1999 in Americus Georgia. send your candidate's supporters to the state convention. Have them bring friends. qualify as delegates. participate in the election of the Georgia delegates to the Presidntial Nominating Convention in Denver Colorado, June 23-25, 2000, participate in the platform process, run for seats on the state Council. RUN FOR DELEGATE -- attend the Denver Convention. participate in the nominating process. BUILD THE GEORGIA GREEN PARTY -- consider becoming active in creating and sustaining a county Green Party local. write: ggp@greens.org if you are interested. That's the short list. -- Hugh
